The tsar's official response to Jan Rokyta, a minister of the Czech Brethren, who took part in a formal religious debate conducted in Moscow on 10 May 1570. The debate consisted of (1) Ivan's statement of the problems involved, with a series of doctrinal questions addressed to Rokyta ; (2) Rokyta's reply ; and (3) Ivan's answer and refutation of Rokyta's statement. The MS represents this third and final stage of the debate. The tsar's written reply was handed to Rokyta on 18 June 1570.
